“What does a website cost?” is the question we hear most. The most honest answer is unsatisfying: it depends. So that you can still plan with numbers, here are the three price tiers that realistically exist in Austria, the running costs after launch and the places where quotes like to leave something out.

In short
- Site builder: roughly €10–40 a month, your own time not included.
- Website subscription such as EasyWeb: from €80 a month, no upfront cost.
- Custom website from an agency: with us from around €4,500, web apps typically €12,000–60,000.
- A custom site adds hosting and maintenance, with us from €149 a month.
Why the price range is so wide
A website is not a product with a list price. It is a bundle of work: concept, copy, images, design, code, legal pages, SEO and upkeep. Someone who says “website” might mean a three-page business card or a booking system with customer accounts. Both are called a website, and they cost completely different amounts.
So the range is not arbitrary. It shows how much of that work you do yourself and how much someone takes on for you.
Tier 1: site builder, built yourself
Wix, Jimdo, Squarespace and similar providers usually charge somewhere around €10 to €40 a month for a business plan. Templates, hosting and an editor are included. What is not included: your time. Writing copy, choosing images, setting up the legal notice and privacy policy properly, keeping your Google listing current, all of that stays with you.
That fits if your budget is small but you have time and enjoy the work, and the site mainly needs to exist. It does not fit if it has to bring in inquiries and you have no hours to spare. One point many only notice later: when you move away from a site builder, you usually cannot take the site with you. You start again.
Tier 2: website on subscription
The middle ground. Instead of a one-off payment you pay monthly, and in return someone builds the site professionally and then looks after hosting, updates and small changes. Our own model for this is called EasyWeb and starts at €80 a month, with no upfront cost and no lock-in.
That suits founders and small businesses who need a clean website but no special features. The catch, honestly: over many years a subscription can cost more than a one-off payment, and the design scope is narrower than in a custom project.
Tier 3: custom website from an agency
Nothing here is assembled from a template. Concept, design and code are made for your business, your customers and your goals. With us, small brand sites start at around €4,500. Web apps with logins, booking, integrations or shop logic typically land between €12,000 and €60,000.
The best way to see what such a price contains is the process. How we work when you get a website built with us, from page structure to launch, is laid out on our web development page.
The three tiers at a glance
| Model | Upfront | Ongoing | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site builder | €0 | approx. €10–40 / month | you have time and want to maintain it yourself |
| Website subscription (EasyWeb) | €0 | from €80 / month | you want a fast, professional start |
| Custom website | from approx. €4,500 | Maintenance at visualy from €149 / month | the site should bring inquiries or revenue |
| Web app | approx. €12,000–60,000 | depends on scope | processes in your business should go digital |
The costs after launch
A website has running costs like a car, even if no quote shows them as prominently as the purchase price:
- Domain: an .at domain usually costs a low two-digit amount per year.
- Hosting: from a few euros for basic shared hosting to more for fast, well-managed servers. The cheapest plan often takes its toll on loading time, and that is not a nice-to-have.
- Maintenance: security updates, backups, checks after browser updates, small changes. What that includes in practice is on our page about support and maintenance.
- Content: new photos, copy, posts. Either your time or a budget.
For a custom website our maintenance starts at €149 a month for smaller sites. That sounds like an item you could cut. But a website without maintenance does not keep running for free, it just gets more expensive slowly: through security holes, outages and a relaunch that comes sooner than it had to.
What really drives the price
- Page types, not page count: ten service pages with the same layout cost less than three completely different templates.
- Copy and images: supplying finished content saves money. Having it produced usually gets you better content, but you pay for it. Professional photos are often the most underestimated item.
- Features: a contact form is standard. Booking, multiple languages, a shop, customer login or a connection to your inventory system move the project into a different league.
- SEO and structure: whether local SEO, clean markup and a considered page structure are planned in from the start or retrofitted expensively later.
- Coordination: the more people on your side who have a say, the more rounds. That is legitimate, but it takes time.
How to compare quotes fairly
Two quotes for €3,000 and €7,000 are rarely the same product at different prices. Usually the cheaper one is missing something. These questions make the difference visible:
- Are copy, images and translations included, or do you supply them?
- How many rounds of revisions are planned?
- Are the legal notice, privacy policy and cookie banner part of the quote? Which pages are required is covered in required pages and local SEO for Tyrol.
- Is a basic SEO setup included: page titles, meta descriptions, redirects, Google Search Console?
- What does maintenance cost after launch, and what happens without it?
- Do you own the domain, content and code if you part ways?
More questions of this kind, along with the answers that should make you pause, are collected in Choosing a web agency: 10 questions.
Local or not?
An agency’s location explains price differences less than people think. It still makes a difference to the collaboration: a meeting on site, a photo shoot at your business and someone who knows the region and its seasons all save rounds of back and forth. If you are looking in Tyrol, you will find us as a web agency in Tyrol in Schlitters in the Zillertal, with dedicated pages for areas such as web design in Innsbruck.
In closing
The cheapest website is the one that fits your goal. If it only needs to exist, a site builder is enough. If it should look professional without you having to look after anything, a subscription like EasyWeb makes sense. If it should bring inquiries, simplify processes or grow with your business, it pays to have a custom website built. Then maintenance belongs in the budget from day one.
